Four days old and loving life at home

Hello all. Hope this update finds everyone enjoying some warmer weather. As I'm writing this, I'm looking outside at my backyard and am thankful that we have a privacy fence to hide the pasture back there.
We had our first appointment for Harrison today at the pediatrician. He looks great and didn't cry a bit as he got checked out. Mind you, this was Harrison without clothes not crying. Mom and I aren't so lucky most of the time. Seriously though, he is such a blessing. He has slept pretty good the last couple of nights. I only say pretty good because I am used to 8 hours of sleep uninterrupted. He's eating well and pretty much just enjoying life. He has this little smirk that he'll give mom and me every now and then. We'd like to think he's letting us know he thinks we're pretty cool. Either that or he has something planned for the next few hours that will keep us busy.
Hope everyone enjoys the pictures I've posted. Thank you for the comments that have been posted thus far. The little guy appreciates that you all think he's pretty handsome. He's looking forward to meeting you all at some point.
Till next time...

Welcome Harrison!

Well the day we've all been waiting for is here and now the real journey begins. Harrison Michael Jansen was welcomed to this world at 4:13 pm on April 27th. Erin started having some pretty crazy contractions on the 26th, which led us to go to Bryan and get checked in. Must have been the exhilerating trip to Home Depot on Saturday that got Harrison all riled up.

Interesting fact: It was five years ago on April 26th that Erin and I shared our first "date" which was SigEp formal as "friends." I'd say we've come a long way.
Erin was a real trooper through the entire labor process. She started pushing at around 2 pm, and we were greeted with a new baby boy after a couple of hours. Definitely not the most fun process in the world as I'm sure most moms would say, but having Harrison was definitely worth the wait.
He has spent his first days eating, sleeping, and making a mess of his diapers. He eats well and doesn't cry too much. He's not particularly fond of having his diaper changed, but I guess I can't blame him. Harrison was able to really get to know both sets of grandparents the last couple of days. Good news: He loves them. A lot. He's looking forward to meeting the rest of the family in the coming weeks.
Erin and I are so blessed to have Harrison in our lives, and we want to thank you for all your prayers throughout our pregnancy. Now we ask for your prayers as we continue down the road of parenthood. I'm sure we'll have our struggles, but having Erin around makes me ready to take on all the challenges that parenthood has to offer.
I've posted a few pictures of our little guy to take a look at. In the next couple of days, I'll be sure to let everyone know how things are going.
Take care everyone.

Keeping it real at 38 weeks...

Well, here we are at 38 weeks and some change. Hard to believe the big day is almost here. When we first found out we were pregnant it was kinda surreal and didn't really sink in much. It was just something that was way out there that we wouldn't have to think about for awhile. Well, those days are gone. Everyday I wake up wondering if this is the day. We are terribly excited and ready for the day to come. Hope you all are too.

Had the 38 week check-up on Wednesday. Baby Jansen is doing great and is positioned for arrival. The doctor even said that this coming week seemed likely. Not sure if he was serious or just trying to make Erin feel better. I've always loved my wife with all my heart and have had so much respect for her. But I tell you, what she's sacrificed for the family the past 9 months has made me respect her even more. I think God is well aware that men (especially me) couldn't handle carrying a baby for 40 weeks and knew that women (especially Erin) were a lot stronger and would get through it much better.
I've attached some pictures for everyone to check out. Hope you all are doing well. Say a little prayer for a safe delivery of Baby Jansen!

Week 37 and counting...

Hope all is well with everyone. Congrats to Teryl and Ryan for winning the Ver Ploeg and Jansen family NCAA pools, respectively. All I can say is wait till next year. We're moving right along nicely here in Lincoln. We had our 37 week check-up today and all looks great. The baby's heartbeat was right around 125 bpm. I've heard rumors that this would suggest a boy, but obviously we're ecstatic for either a boy or girl. Either way, they'll grow up rooting for the maize and blue!

I've posted a picture of Erin hanging out with the baby to check out. Don't worry, I had her permission before posting any pictures. Take care everyone. Say a little prayer for us if you think of it.
